Sanitary Sewer Smoke Testing
Smoke testing is performed periodically as a part of Wynne Water Utilities' (WWU) sanitary sewer inspection program. Smoke testing helps to identify faulty areas of sewer piping where stormwater and/or groundwater could enter the sanitary sewer system. If these areas are present, the excess stormwater and/or groundwater could cause an unnecessary load on our wastewater treatment plant, and potentially cause sanitary sewer backups.
Smoke Testing Safety
During testing, a non-toxic smoke is forced into the sewer lines within your neighborhood. This smoke leaves no residuals or stains and has no harmful effects on people, plants, animals or household furnishings.
Testing Notification
Notifications, via our website, email and text (if subscribed), will be provided by WWU prior to testing within your neighborhood.
Employees of WWU will perform the smoke testing. Our Inflow & Infiltration (I&I) crew will be wearing uniforms with name badges, and will be driving company vehicles. The crew members will not request entry to your home, but will be available in the neighborhood to assist you if you have any questions about the process.
